The pieces in the Dreamy Abstract exhibit are all magical places/moments/mantras that evolved out of the simple act of letting go of conceptual thoughts and allowing my heart to play in color and emotion through my hands..
I always feel like nature's influence reveals itself no matter how abstract a piece is. There are hints of floaty wildflowers, misty landscapes, deep dark tree roots, or that beautiful Colorado sparkle just as you may remember it in your dreams. What an amazing thing it is to share our sweetest dreams in physical everyday form.
Many spiritual traditions recognize the dream-like nature of reality, and offer the perspective that what we call reality is actually like living in a dream. This inquiry into the nature of reality and dreams is a primary source of inspiration for my art. Living in a high alpine valley in Southern Colorado where it is said that “the veil is thinner”, my subject matter is this dream-like, illusory landscape that sometimes speaks through ephemeral qualities of light, earth and sky.My sincere hope is that by creating these abstract landscapes, I offer a glimpse into this process of understanding the natural world as a portal to this dream-like nature.
I like to portray a dreamscape in my artwork, an abstraction of the world we live in. I enjoy looking at nature, the mountains and trees of Colorado and portraying the beauty I see here in my own way. I usually start my paintings by spreading diluted ink and paint over a canvas and just watching it turn into its own work of art as it dries. I use what this process creates as inspiration for my paintings, next creating a scene in acrylic paint. I finish off all my artwork with a few coats of oil paint, giving depth and adding life to the colors.
